Football is by far the biggest children's sport in Oslo, and the clubs are found in almost every district. Most take in new players as age-group teams the year before school starts, so you begin alongside the whole cohort from the neighbourhood.
Children's football in Norway has no league tables or published results up to and including the year the child turns twelve. Everyone is meant to play roughly the same amount, and the team is often where a child first meets a group beyond their class. Training is once or twice a week, and the coaches are parents.
Worth knowing about football
Get in touch with the club even if the age group has already started. Teams take on new players all year round, and starting at seven or eight is far more common than many assume.
Expect the club to need parents. Children's football runs on volunteers, and most teams ask for a coach or team manager for each cohort. It is also the quickest way to get to know the other parents.

Bjørndal IF was started on the initiative of local enthusiasts who wanted one unified sports offering back when Bjørndal was a brand-new housing area, and the club has been the neighbourhood's mainstay ever since.
