About OsloFamilie
OsloFamilie is an overview of things to do with children in Oslo, gathered in one place.
It covers playgrounds, places to eat that work with small children, activities for every age, year-round clubs and classes, holiday camps, swimming spots, events happening now, and the city’s kindergartens. Every list has a map and filters for age, price and whether it is indoors or out, plus a search where you can write the way you speak.
The site is free, with no paywall and no account required. If you sign in, your favourites follow you between phone and computer, but everything else works just as well without. There is an English version, and a tool that works out travel time to the kindergartens from your address. Below you can read who makes the site, how the information comes about, and what is paid for.
About me
My name is Malin, and I am the one who makes OsloFamilie.
The idea came during my own parental leave. I had lived in Oslo since I was a student and thought I knew the city, but with a baby it was suddenly new, and the answers were scattered: some on the council’s pages, some in Facebook groups, much of it nowhere. I started collecting what I found, mostly for my own sake. I am a developer, so I did what developers do when something is missing: built it myself. OsloFamilie is the guide I was looking for.
How the information comes about
Automated jobs go through the entries every week: they check that the links work, that the offering still exists, and that what it says here still holds. A separate job looks for new things to do in Oslo. I review their suggestions before anything changes.
A lot also comes from you who use these pages. On the playgrounds and kindergartens you can tick off what is actually there, suggest names and upload photos, and every section has its own tip button for places we are missing. I read everything that is sent in before it is published, and contributions are marked on the page.
Accessibility such as changing tables, high chairs, room for a pram and step-free entry is marked as known, unknown or absent. Unknown stays unknown.
At the bottom of an entry you can see when it was last reviewed or added, where we know. Many entries have no date yet: no one has looked at them since they came in. I cannot get through everything, and errors can slip in.
What is paid for
The site is free to use, and today carries no ads or paid placements.
A place in the lists, the order within them, the write-up, the accessibility facts and the reviews can never be bought. Should paid content ever appear, it will be clearly marked and kept outside the lists.
