About OsloFamilie
Oslo is full of lovely moments waiting for you: a playground you have never heard of, a café where the pram actually fits, a swimming spot that becomes the summer favourite.
OsloFamilie gathers it all in one place, so you can spend the time together instead of searching. It covers playgrounds, places to eat that work with small children, activities for every age, year-round clubs and classes, holiday camps, swimming spots, events happening now, and the city’s kindergartens. Every list has a map and filters for age, price and indoors or out, plus a search where you can write the way you speak.
Everything is free, with no paywall and no account required. If you sign in, your favourites follow you between phone and computer, but it all works just as well without. And if you are choosing a kindergarten, the site has its own helper: the kindergarten picker works out travel time from your address to every kindergarten in the city, and lets you compare them side by side, with your everyday life as the starting point.
Why the site exists
OsloFamilie is made by a parent of young children in Oslo, and runs independently of the city and of the places it covers.
The idea came during a parental leave. Oslo becomes a brand new city with a baby on your arm, and the answers were scattered: some with the city, some in groups on Facebook, much of it nowhere. The site began as a private list and grew into what it is now. It is still a small project, and it exists so that other families are spared the same searching.
How the information comes about
Automated jobs go through the entries every week: that the links work, that the offering still exists, and that what it says here holds. A separate job looks for new things to do in the city. I read every suggestion before anything changes.
A lot comes from you who use these pages. On the playgrounds and kindergartens you can tick off what is actually there, suggest names and upload photos, and every section has its own tip button. I read everything that is sent in before it is published, and contributions are marked on the page.
Accessibility such as changing tables, high chairs, room for a pram and step-free entry is marked as known, unknown or absent. Unknown stays unknown, so you can trust what it says here.
At the bottom of each entry you can see when it was last reviewed, where we know. I cannot get through everything, and errors can slip in.
What is paid for
The site is free to use and has no paywall. Partner placements are for sale, and they appear as clearly marked modules outside the lists.
A place in the lists, the order within them, the write-up and the reviews can never be bought. The order is shuffled with a weekly seed, the same for every visitor, so nobody sits permanently at the top.
