OsloFamilie takes your privacy seriously. This page explains what information we collect, why, and what rights you have.
Data controller
OsloFamilie is the data controller for information collected on the site. If you have privacy questions, please get in touch via the contact form.
Analytics (Google Analytics)
We use Google Analytics to understand how the site is used, so we can improve the content. Measurement using cookies only happens if you consent via the banner shown on your first visit, and you can change your choice at any time with the button below. Whatever you choose, we count a few anonymous totals on the server, namely page views, outbound clicks and filter use, as daily sums with no cookies, no identifiers and no personal data.
Search on the front page
When you type a question in the search box, the text itself is sent to two services outside us so the search can answer. Anthropic interprets what you are asking for and writes the short summary at the top of the answer. Upstash finds places that resemble what you mean, and uses OpenAI to turn the text into numbers that can be compared. Neither learns who you are, and we never pass along your location, your email or anything else about you. If you share your location, it is used only at that moment to sort results by distance, and it is not stored anywhere. The search terms themselves are stored with us as a plain daily count: how many times each term was used that day, with no link to who searched. We use this to see what people look for and fail to find. So please do not type personal information into the search box.
Contact form and tips
When you submit feedback, a contact message, or a restaurant tip, your message (plus name and email if provided) is stored and sent to us via the email service Resend. We only use this information to respond to your inquiry.
Newsletter
If you sign up for the newsletter, we store your email address together with the date you clicked the confirmation link and the fact that consent was given via double opt-in. The address is used solely to send you the newsletter, is never shared, and is not counted in any statistics. It is stored with our database provider (Upstash) until you unsubscribe: every single mailing contains an unsubscribe link that works without logging in, and unsubscribing deletes the address immediately and completely. You can also ask us to delete it via the contact form.
Ratings and comments on pages
When you give a star rating on a place, only anonymous counters are stored in a database - no personal information tied to you. Your browser remembers locally (only on your own device) which rating you gave. If you write a comment, the text (and a name if you provide one - optional) is stored and shown publicly on the page; don't include personal information you don't want to share. Inappropriate comments can be flagged with the "Report" button.
The kindergarten finder
When you search in the kindergarten finder, we store anonymous, coarse statistics about the search - the approximate area (coordinates rounded to about one kilometre, not the exact address you entered), which mode of transport you chose, and which kindergartens ranked highest. We use this to improve the tool. We do not store your exact address.
Address search, maps and travel times
If you type an address in the kindergarten finder or on "Near me", the address is sent to Kartverket, the Norwegian mapping authority, to find its coordinates. For places that are not an ordinary street address we ask OpenStreetMap instead. If you use the button to fetch your location in the kindergarten finder, the coordinates are sent to Kartverket to find the nearest address. Travel times are calculated by OpenRouteService, which receives coordinates, not the address as you typed it. On "Near me" your location stays in the browser: distances are calculated on your own device, and your coordinates are not sent to us. Map tiles are loaded from OpenStreetMap.
Accounts and signing in
You can use the whole site without signing in. If you choose to create an account, you do so with a one-time link sent by email. We never create passwords, so there are no passwords here that could leak. We store your email address and the places you have saved, so they follow you between phone and computer. Without an account, favourites are stored only locally in your browser, as before.
Your contributions
If you are signed in when you write a comment, give a rating or add details about a place, the contribution is linked to your account. That is what lets you see them together under «My contributions», and edit or delete your own comments. Other visitors never see which account is behind a contribution: the account identity does not leave our server. Contributions sent before 29 July 2026 are not linked to any account, because we did not store who sent them at the time, so they can neither be shown nor edited. If you are not signed in, no link to you is stored at all.
Google as data processor
Signing in and storing account data is handled by Firebase, a Google service. That means your email address and your saved places are stored with Google on our behalf. If you use the site without signing in, no account data is shared with Google in this way.
Deleting your account
You can delete your account yourself, at any time, under "Sign in". Deleting removes both the account and everything we have stored about you, not just your access to it. You do not need to ask us, and you do not need to give a reason.
Ads (Google AdSense)
Once Google AdSense is approved for the site, ads that use cookies from Google to personalize ad content may be shown. You can read more about how Google uses data on Google's own privacy pages.
Your rights
You have the right to access, correct, and delete information we have stored about you, for example a previous inquiry via the contact form. Get in touch via the contact form to exercise these rights.
Changes
This privacy policy may be updated as the site evolves.
