Organised activities for children in Oslo

Mortensrud, Søndre Nordstrand

Badminton for children and youth at Mortensrud, Wednesdays and Fridays from 17:00, in the hall in Lofsrudveien where four courts are marked out for badminton. The club welcomes new players with no prior experience required.

ages 6-17

Njårdhallen, Vestre Aker

A rhythmic gymnastics club, with recreational groups at Njårdhallen from age five: levels for ages 5 to 7, 8 to 10, an advanced group, RG for everyone up to 13 and a dedicated youth group to 17. Rhythmic gymnastics combines dance, gymnastics and apparatus like ball, ribbon and rope, and the club has gymnasts at every level from beginner to the competitive classes.

Grorud skole, Grorud

A school band based at Grorud school. The band takes children from Grorud school, Nordtvet school and the schools at Romsås, so it is not only for the pupils of one school. Aspirants are admitted from the lower grades, instruments are borrowed from the band, and tuition happens within the band itself.

ages 7-18

Bygdøy, Frogner

Football in the neighbourhood club on Bygdøy, and the club's largest section. The teams cover the 2012 to 2019 birth years for boys and 2009 to 2019 for girls, that is from the age of seven upwards, with separate teams for the oldest youth as well. Monolitten is a multi-sport club that also has handball, floorball, tennis and all-round sports, so trying something else alongside is easy. Training times and team lists are under «Våre lag» on the club's site.

Voldsløkka, Sagene

Children's and youth rugby at Voldsløkka. The club runs sports schools where beginners can give it a try.

ages 6-18

Vinderen, Vestre Aker

A dance studio at Vinderen, founded in 1986. Children and teenagers can choose between children's dance, classical ballet, jazz, hip hop, funk, ragga fusion, contemporary, commercial and girly style, from one to five times a week and at levels for both beginners and more experienced dancers. All students take part in the big summer show and Christmas show every year.

Turer i marka og på fjellet, Sentrum

The Norwegian Trekking Association's own programme for families with children, with hikes, play and activities for children aged 0 to 12. Barnas Turlag Oslo arranges everything from short local walks in the forest to mountain trips and camps, both for the whole family and for children on their own. Membership costs around 150 kroner a year.

Stovner bad, Stovner

The swimming club for Groruddalen has started training at Stovner bad, which opened in August 2026. The club says its training group is made up of children who have completed all the levels of the PirayaSwim school.

ages 6-18

Majorstuen, Frogner

A dance school in Professor Dahls gate at Majorstuen with a broad programme for children and youth, from a parent-and-child group for ages 2-4 and dance play for 3- and 4-year-olds to classical ballet, jazz and hip hop. The institute has groups divided by age and level, with performances, and also runs classes at Løren and in Lillestrøm.

Holmlia, Søndre Nordstrand

Holmlia's own string orchestra for children and young people aged six to eighteen, with professional teachers. Members play violin, viola and cello together rather than alone, and the orchestra welcomes both beginners and those who have played for a while.

ages 6-18

Manglerud, Østensjø

A ceramics course for children aged ten to twelve at Oslo Culture School, at Manglerud kulturstasjon. Children learn to shape and work clay and follow the process from raw clay to finished product, normally over ten sessions per term.

Nordberg kirke, Kringsjågrenda 1, Nordre Aker

A children's gospel choir in Nordberg parish at Kringsjå, with two groups. Lille-Bago is for children from four up to and including year 2 and rehearses on Wednesdays 5-5.45pm, and Store-Bago is for years 3 and 4 and rehearses on Wednesdays 6-7.15pm. Both meet in the parish room next to the church. Children's gospel is more rhythmic than the classical choir repertoire. You sign up by contacting the choir's contact person.

Høybråten skole, Stovner

A children's string orchestra rehearsing at Høybråten skole, with members also from other schools and districts. Tuition on violin and cello and playing together in an orchestra, with separate junior and senior rehearsals.

ages 7-16

Tvetenveien 101, Alna

A youth club behind the hut at Tveten farm in Tvetenveien, split into a junior club for years 5 to 7 and a youth club for years 8 to 10. The junior club has group activities on Tuesday and an outdoor club on Thursday, plus its own Friday opening for year 7; the youth club has a girls' club on Wednesday and an open evening on Friday. Free.

Høyenhallen, Østensjø

Community gymnastics at Høyenhallen by Manglerud metro station, with playful gymnastics for four- and five-year-olds and then groups by school year all the way to tenth grade. The exercises follow the national gymnastics ladder of a hundred graded skills, and those who want more can move up to a dedicated advanced group.

Hagegata 22, Tøyen, Gamle Oslo

The workshop at Biblo Tøyen, the library exclusively for children and young people aged 10 to 15. In the afternoons you can create, draw, cut, glue and test out ideas in the workshop. Everything is free.

Eget PT-studio på Oppsal, Østensjø

Strength training for children and teenagers in a small personal training studio at Oppsal, split into CrossKids for ages 10 to 12 and CrossTeens for ages 13 to 15. This is functional strength and movement work adapted to age and stage of development rather than competitive lifting, and it follows the school year's terms. CrossKids trains on Mondays, CrossTeens has four weekdays to choose from, and one session a week is the starting point with the option of adding a second. Everyone begins with a trial session. Charged per term, and approved for the Oslo leisure card.

A school band at Lilleborg school in Torshov, for children and young people. Beginners start with no prior knowledge and borrow an instrument from the band.

Bjølsenhallen og skolene på Sagene, Sagene

All-round sports for the youngest children at one of the city's large grassroots clubs: they get to try many different sports through play, with the emphasis on motor skills and the joy of moving rather than competition.

ages 4-5

Njårdhallen, Vestre Aker

Oslo Movement's classes for children and youth in Njårdhallen run on Sundays: Parkour Kidz for ages six to nine, Parkour & Flips level 1 for nine to twelve and level 2-3 for twelve to fifteen. The classes are grouped by both age and level, so you start where you are and move up when it clicks. Courses follow the school term, with sign-up before the start.

Njårdhallen, Vestre Aker

Njård has an alpine skiing group that takes children and youth to the slopes, with ski school for the youngest from around age five.

ages 5-18

Tusentrippen 5, St. Hanshaugen

An activity park and youth club at Marienlyst, known as Leker'n, with both outdoor facilities and an indoor club. Park and club belonging together means you can play outside until it gets dark or cold and then carry on indoors.

ages 10-16

Akershusstranda 5, Sentrum

Sailing on a hundred-year-old sailing ship, S/Y Mohawk II, moored at the far end of Rådhusbrygge 1 in summer. The sea corps sails every Tuesday from 18:00 to 20:30 in the summer season, and in winter teaches seamanship in shed 28 at Akershusstranda, with first aid, boating licence, sailing theory and navigation for those aged 12 and up. No experience is needed, and the price is 600 kroner per year (membership and activity fee). Rain gear and boots are the only equipment needed.

Østensjøvannet bålplass, Østensjø

Nature groups by Østensjøvannet where children investigate whatever they find, together with adults who have both a natural science and a teaching background. Sessions follow the children's own urge to explore rather than a fixed programme, and the leaders put words to the species and phenomena the children meet along the way.

ages 4-10

Rosenholmveien 11, Søndre Nordstrand

A leisure farm at Rosenholm for children and young people aged 9 to 20, with horses, sheep, pigs, hens and a cat. Activities revolve around riding and horse care, animal care, the vegetable garden and farm work, and members can come any day of the year. The farm is also an open visitor farm with free entry for everyone, with picnic tables and waffles in the storehouse café.

Lambertseter, Nordstrand

A wrestling club with groups for children from as young as four and up, in a wrestling hall in operation since January 2018. The youngest train basic motor skills and falling technique through play, while the older ones wrestle properly.

ages 4-18

Manglerud kulturstasjon, Østensjø

Sewing and redesign for children from ten, two hours a week through the school year. The children learn to use a sewing machine and remake used clothes into something of their own, from scrunchies and tote bags to whole garments. The course runs at both Manglerud and Voldsløkka.

Høybråten kirke, Høybråtenveien 37, Stovner

KFUK-KFUM scouts meeting at Høybråten church. Oppdagere and stifinnere in years 2 to 4 meet on Wednesdays from 18:00 to 19:15 at Normisjonens hus in Bergtunveien, and the vandrere in years 5 to 10 on Wednesdays from 18:30 to 20:00 in the basement of Høybråten church. The scarf changes colour at each step.

Sletteløkka, Bjerke

A sports club with cricket as its main sport, running a year-round programme for children, teenagers and girls aged 6 to 19 alongside two adult teams. They play outdoors in summer and move inside when it gets cold. Approved for the Oslo leisure card.

School band at Bryn school in Teisen, rehearsing on Tuesdays during after-school hours. The band takes beginners and lets each child start at their own level, so no prior experience is needed. Instruments are lent out by the band.
