Tøyen Arena, Gamle Oslo

Volleyball for children and young people. Tøyen Sportsklubb is a neighbourhood club in Gamle Oslo where membership costs 100 kroner for the whole calendar year, and that covers everything the club runs for your age group. Activities take place at Tøyen Arena and Gamle Munch, and the club also runs free holiday activities during school breaks.

Rommenhallen, Stovner

One of Norway's largest floorball clubs, founded in 1994, with its own hall at Rommen. Teams for girls and boys in every age group. Floorball needs little equipment and is quick to get started with, and the club has a broad grassroots programme alongside its elite teams.

Voldsløkka, Sagene

Children's and youth rugby at Voldsløkka in one of the country's most active rugby communities. For the youngest it's about play, speed and teamwork in a safe form (often non-contact), and the club runs sports schools where beginners can give it a try. A team sport most children have never tried - low threshold and a big community.

Kastellet idrettshall, Nordstrand

A large volleyball club with over 300 active members and teams in all age groups, based at Kastellet sports hall. Mini-volleyball is the way in for the youngest: a smaller court, a lighter ball and simpler rules, so children get the ball over the net and experience mastery from the start. The club also runs mini beach volleyball in summer.

Jordal og Valle Hovin, Gamle Oslo

Oslo's largest baseball club, with Little League for children from around age six in addition to softball and senior teams in the top division. Baseball is an American team sport few Norwegian children get to try, where everyone gets to bat and everyone gets to pitch - and the club lends gloves and equipment to new players. Grounds at Jordal and Valle Hovin.

Ellingsrudhallen, Alna

Floorball at Ellingsrud IL, with around 200 active players across fourteen teams for children, youth and seniors. Home matches are played in Ellingsrudhallen, shared with the handball section.

Rommen Baseballpark, Stovner

A baseball club from 1991 with its own field at Rommen Baseballpark in summer and indoor training in winter. The junior team is for children aged 7 to 13, who learn to pitch, bat and field in one of the world's biggest sports that almost no one plays in Norway. An American team sport with a low threshold and a friendly community.

Apalløkkahallen, Grorud

Floorball at Sportsforeningen Grei, with a mini mini group for the youngest and separate teams for girls and boys from years one to seven, plus boys' teams for the 2010 to 2013 cohorts. The home court is Apalløkkahallen at Ammerud, and the club also uses the gyms at Ammerud and Grorud schools.

Mortensrud idrettspark, Søndre Nordstrand

The neighbourhood club at Mortensrud has its own cricket programme for children and youth, in a district where cricket has deep roots in many communities. The club is a broad-participation club with a low membership fee, and Mortensrud sports park is being expanded with dedicated cricket surfaces. Cricket is one of the world's biggest sports, and here children can try it without price being a barrier.

Tvetenveien 162, Alna

The country's first indoor cricket facility, opened on 19 January 2024 on the second floor of Tvetenveien 162 at Tveita. Run by the Norwegian Cricket Federation, it is where Oslo's clubs train through the winter months. The federation runs league cricket for children and youth in the U13, U15, U17 and U19 classes, and the academy is where the youngest teams get to work on technique year-round. Contact the federation or a local club to join.

Oslo, Sentrum

The beach volleyball club's recruitment section, with training divided by school year all the way from first grade to upper secondary. For the youngest (grades 1-3) it is about all-round movement experience through play and ball games, grades 4-6 practise hitting technique and simple game drills, and from grade 7 come tactics and more specific training. Beach volleyball trains balance and coordination on a soft surface.

A cricket club at Vestli with youth teams alongside senior and women's sides. The club has been part of developing cricket in Norway and takes players at all levels. Approved for the Oslo leisure card.

Klemetsrud idrettspark, Mortensrud, Søndre Nordstrand

Futsal is indoor football on a small pitch with a heavy ball, played five against five - a fast variant that gives lots of touches and plenty of technical learning per player. Klemetsrud IL runs dedicated futsal groups for children and youth alongside its football, and the club is the main club for children in the Bjørnerud, Mortensrud, Klemetsrud and Stenbråten area.

Furuset, Alna

A cricket club with activities for children and teenagers as well as adults. Note the name against the address: the club is called Søndre Nordstrand, but its registered address is in the Alna district, so it is worth asking where training actually takes place before setting off. Approved for the Oslo leisure card.

Mortensrud, Søndre Nordstrand

Cricket for children and youth at Mortensrud, with age-banded teams from around age six and training on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays (different teams at different times). Cricket is a bat-and-ball game for two teams of eleven, and the club adapts the game to age and level.

Årvoll, Bjerke

The volleyball group at Årvoll IL gives children and youth in Årvoll and the Bjerke district a local volleyball programme. Volleyball is a technical, non-contact team sport where teamwork and serving nerve are central, and it suits children who want to try something other than the usual ball sports.

Kringsjåhallen, Nordre Aker

The volleyball section of IL Koll, with teams for children and teenagers at Kringsjåhallen and its own beach volleyball facility, Koll Arena, right next door. The club combines grassroots and elite, so a child who starts here has something to aim for without changing clubs. Having both indoor and sand courts means the season runs all year. Approved for the Oslo leisure card.

Voldsløkka landhockeybane, Sagene

Field hockey for children and youth on a dedicated pitch at Voldsløkka - one of very few clubs in the country offering the sport. Children learn stick and ball skills in a team game related to both football and ice hockey, but which almost no one has tried before. A fun and unusual niche in the inner city.

Voksen flerbrukshall, Vestre Aker

Floorball at Voksen flerbrukshall in two groups. The mixed group for ages 10 to 12, that is the 2013 to 2015 cohorts, is for both girls and boys and trains on Tuesdays from 16:30 to 17:30. It is the beginners' group: no training fee for the time being, only club membership, and the first session is a free trial. The group for ages 13 to 15, the 2010 to 2012 cohorts, is for BOYS and trains on Tuesdays from around 16:00 to 18:30, with a 2000 kroner annual training fee plus a player licence. VASK is a broad-based club founded in 1907 that also offers football, volleyball, cross-country skiing, badminton, all-round sports and orienteering.

Jordal idrettspark, Gamle Oslo

Norway's oldest American football club, founded in 1983 as Oslo Trolls, with its home ground on the artificial turf at Jordal. The club has U14 and U17 teams and has started its own U11 team, so the youngest can get going too. The way in for children is flag football - the same game without tackling, where a flag is pulled from the belt instead. In summer the club runs introduction weeks together with Oslo idrettskrets, where children can try it out before joining.

Bjølsenhallen, Sagene

Floorball for children and youth in Bjølsenhallen, with separate teams for girls and boys and a free floorball school for the youngest (1st-2nd grade). It's a fast, fun indoor game with stick and ball that's easy to get started with, and a good alternative to the usual ball sports in winter.

Traktorveien 15, Østensjø

One of Norway's largest floorball clubs, founded by the Finstad family in February 1991. The club has teams for children and teenagers alongside an elite side, which means there is a path onwards for a player who sticks with the sport. Approved for the Oslo leisure card.

Raschs vei 38A, Nordstrand

Floorball at Bækkelagets Sportsklub, with no waiting lists and room for everyone. Teams train one to three times a week depending on age, on weekdays. All you need is indoor shoes; you can borrow a stick to begin with. The training fee is 1700 kroner plus a 300 kroner membership.

Haugerudhallen, Alna

Floorball from ten. The group is small in 2026, training once a week, and the club says so plainly rather than promising more. For a child who wants to try floorball without a big environment, that can be an advantage.

Floorball in a low-threshold club where the annual fee is 50 kroner and everyone is welcome. Sessions on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday in the school gym on Løkkeveien; girls and boys mostly train separately but sometimes join up. Sessions follow the school year and pause during school holidays.

Ekebergsletta, Nordstrand

One of the pioneer clubs for cricket in Norway, with more than 200 players and eleven teams - among them U13 and U15 junior sides playing league cricket under the Norwegian Cricket Federation. The summer grounds are at Ekebergsletta, and in winter training moves indoors. The club has dedicated programmes for children, girls and beginners, and cricket is one of few team sports where technique and tactics matter more than physique.

Løkkeveien 15, Frogner

Volleyball for teenagers in a low-threshold club where the annual fee is 50 kroner and everyone is welcome. Girls and boys train together on Wednesdays from 20:00 to 21:00 in the school gym on Løkkeveien. Sessions follow the school year and pause during school holidays.

Tokerud flerbrukshall, Stovner

Cricket for children and youth at Tamil Sangam IL. Cricket is strong in Groruddalen and is one of few sports where the east of Oslo has more clubs than the rest of the city put together. The club runs its own tournaments.

Lambertseter flerbrukshall, Nordstrand

Floorball in the Lambertseter sports hall, with teams in several year groups and open spots both on the youth team (born 2010 and 2011) and for children born 2015 to 2018. Fast paced indoor fun, with training days varying per team; see the club's pages via the link.

An American-football club with its home ground at Frogner stadion and teams in all youth classes (U14, U17). For the youngest the way in is flag football, a gentler, non-tackling version focused on speed, passing and team spirit. An American team sport few Norwegian children get to try.

Furuset, Alna

A cricket club for children and teenagers in the Alna district, running training camps both indoors and outdoors. The offering is split between those who want an introduction to cricket and those who already play and want to progress. The club is young and does not yet have its own website, so contact goes through the city's leisure card page. Approved for the Oslo leisure card.

Holmliahallen, Søndre Nordstrand

Floorball with teams all the way up: Mini for children born 2018 to 2021, then boys' and girls' 10, girls' 11, boys' 12 and girls' 15. The club also runs electric floorball, played from a wheelchair.

Sletteløkka, Bjerke

A sports club with cricket as its main sport, running a year-round programme for children, teenagers and girls aged 6 to 19 alongside two adult teams. The year-round part matters most here: they play outdoors in summer and move inside when it gets cold, rather than pausing for half the year as cricket in Norway often does. Approved for the Oslo leisure card.

American football at Jordal, with a U14 team for those born 2010 and later (training Monday 18:30 to 20:00 and Wednesday 17:15 to 19:00) and older youth teams above that. You can try it out with no commitment, and the club, VIF Trolls, takes beginners throughout the season.

Cricket from ten, and one of the club's largest activities by membership. There is everything from recreational teams to top-level youth sides, plus a girls' team, which is rare in Norwegian cricket.

Blindern, Nordre Aker

A rugby club at Blindern with its own junior programme, and one of the most established rugby clubs in Oslo. The club also runs toddler rugby for the very youngest, a Sunday session at Bjølsenhallen with play, throwing, catching and balance and no tackling, as preparation for minis rugby from age six. Children's rugby is played without hard tackling pressure at the start, focusing on passing, running and teamwork - and the rugby community is known for a strong club culture where every body type has a place on the pitch. Note that training takes place at several venues, not only at Blindern.
