Tennis, badminton and table tennis for kids in Oslo

29 options are listed under tennis, badminton and table tennis for children in Oslo, across 13 districts, for ages 3 to 18. Below is the full overview with age, district and a link to sign-up.

Districts with an offering: Vestre Aker, Alna, Frogner, Sagene, Stovner, Bjerke, Gamle Oslo, Nordre Aker, Nordstrand, Søndre Nordstrand, Grorud, Ullern, Østensjø.

Racket sports share two things: you can keep playing for life, and you play against one opponent rather than in a team. Tennis usually starts with mini tennis from around four or five, with lower nets, softer balls and a smaller court, while badminton and table tennis come in slightly later. Padel and squash are the newest here: padel is played two against two in a glassed-in court and it is easy to get a rally going, squash alone against a wall in a small room.

Table tennis is the most overlooked of the three, and perhaps the most accessible: it needs little space, little equipment and little money, and many youth clubs have tables standing anyway. Badminton sits in between, with halls spread around the city.

Worth knowing about racket sports

Tennis has a reputation for being expensive, and indoor court time in Oslo is. Outdoor courts in summer and group coaching instead of private lessons make the difference, so ask what the club offers of both.

A racket sport suits children who dislike depending on a team. You turn up, you play, and the result is your own, both when it goes well and when it does not.
