Open kindergartens in Oslo
An open kindergarten («åpen barnehage») is a free – or nearly free – service where anyone home with a child can come and go as they like: no application, no enrolled place, just show up. The children play with other children, you meet other parents over a coffee, and a qualified early-years teacher is present.
For many parents on leave it's the most important meeting place of the week, and a great way to get to know the neighbourhood and other parents of small children. Most open kindergartens are run by the city districts, the church or voluntary organisations, and you neither have to sign up nor commit to anything.
