Swimming lessons and clubs for kids in Oslo

Tøyenbadet, Grünerløkka

A swimming club based at Tøyenbadet, with courses for children and teenagers at every level and a clear route onward to training and competition. The club also runs swimming for nurseries and schools, and together with Lambertseter and Oslo Idrettslag takes part in the free summer swimming funded by the City of Oslo.

ages 4-16

Stovner bad, Stovner

The swimming club for Groruddalen has started training at Stovner bad, which opened in August 2026. The club says its training group is made up of children who have completed all the levels of the PirayaSwim school, so this is where to continue once the course is done. Training times for Stovner are not yet listed in the club's group overview.

ages 6-18

Lambertseter bad, Nordstrand

One of Norway's largest swimming schools, with around 2,000 participants a week. Courses are split into toddlers from age two, children from five, and teenagers up to seventeen, following the national federation's levels. Lessons run at Lambertseter, Holmlia and Bøler pools and at Oppsal and Hauketo schools, and those who want more can move on to the club's recruit and competition squads.

Kantarellen, Søndre Nordstrand

Baby swimming and swimming courses in a warm therapy pool at Mortensrud, for children from newborn to around ten years old. Barn i vann emphasises water safety, play and mastery, with a parent in the water for the youngest. The pool is in the basement of the Kantarellen care and rehabilitation centre, with room for babies and toddlers alike.

Stig skole, Stovner

Baby swimming and swimming courses in a warm pool at 32 to 35 degrees, from the smallest babies up to children around ten years old. Barn i vann builds water confidence through play and regular courses, with a parent in the water for the youngest. The pool is at Stig skole in the Groruddalen valley.

ages 0-10

Høybråten skole, Stovner

A swimming school running courses for children from age three in the pool at Høybråten school, Monday to Thursday. Small groups and progression from water familiarisation upwards. Swimming tuition has been in short supply in Groruddalen, and this is one of few regular course options in the district.

ages 3-18

Økern bad, Bjerke

Swimming courses for children aged four to eight at Økern bad, run by Sportsklubben Speed. The club follows the Norwegian Swimming School system, so the levels are the same as in its other pools and you can move between them.

ages 4-8

Sagene bad, Sagene

Swimming courses in small groups with adult instructors, split into separate tracks for ages four to seven and eight to thirteen. The youngest start with water familiarisation and work through three levels, while the older ones begin on a beginner course and move on to technique. Courses run at Sagene bad and Montebello bad.

ages 4-13

Furuset bad, Alna

Swimming courses for children aged four to eight at Furuset bad, run by Sportsklubben Speed. Håbrann Svømmeklubb also runs courses in the same pool, so there are two clubs to choose between here.

ages 4-8

Hauketo skole og to andre bassenger, Søndre Nordstrand

Swimming lessons where an adult stays in the water until the child can swim, from baby swimming upwards. Classes once a week across three pools: Hauketo school, Kantarellenhjemmet and Høyås care centre. Having a parent in the water sets this apart from most swimming courses and makes it possible to start before the child manages alone. Approved for the Oslo leisure card, and when registering you should note in the skills field that the card will be used.

ages 0-12

Romsås bad, Grorud

Swimming courses for children aged nine to fourteen at Romsås bad, run by Sportsklubben Speed. This is the only one of Speed's five pools that takes the older children - the others run to age eight. For a child who did not learn to swim early, this is the place in this part of the city.

ages 9-14

Furuset bad, Alna

A swimming club for Groruddalen with courses at Furuset bad for children from age six, from water familiarisation and floating to all four strokes. The club also runs courses in other pools around the city. Swimming tuition has been in short supply in the east of Oslo, and this club is one of those filling the gap.

ages 6-18

Nordtvet bad, Grorud

Swimming courses for children at Nordtvet bad in Kalbakken, run by Sportsklubben Speed. The club follows the Norwegian Swimming School system, with courses from the youngest accompanied by an adult in a warm-water pool and upwards through the levels. Speed also runs courses at Økern, Linderud, Romsås and Furuset pools. Note that Nordtvet bad is a sports pool Speed operates for the city, and is not open for general public swimming.

ages 4-8

Norges idrettshøgskole, Nordre Aker

Swimming all the way from baby classes to club level. Baby courses take children from ten weeks, toddler courses run from two to four with an adult in the water, and the swimming school then follows the national levels of diving, floating, gliding and propulsion. Courses are held at the Norwegian School of Sport Sciences, Lovisenberg and Bergtunet, and the club also offers synchronised swimming.
