Dance for kids in Oslo

17 options are listed under dance for children in Oslo, across 11 districts, for ages 2 to 18. Below is the full overview with age, district and a link to sign-up.

Districts with an offering: Bjerke, Frogner, Gamle Oslo, Grünerløkka, Nordre Aker, Nordstrand, Sagene, Sentrum, Ullern, Vestre Aker, Østensjø.

Dance is one of the few regular activities that starts as early as age two and continues all the way to adulthood. The youngest attend children's dance, where the class is play set to music, while from school age the offering splits into genres: hip hop, ballet, jazz, contemporary and show dance.

Dance schools in Oslo are spread across the whole city, and most take new pupils both in autumn and at new year. Hip hop is the largest genre in children's and youth groups, while ballet tends to have the longest path from beginner to the senior classes.

Worth knowing about dance

Ask whether there is a show, and what it costs. Many dance schools end the year with a performance, and costumes and tickets can come on top of the term fee. Better to know in November than in May.

The genre matters less than the teacher in the first years. A seven-year-old who enjoys their class keeps going; one placed in the 'right' genre with the wrong atmosphere quits. A trial class is common, and worth using.
