Venues for christenings and naming ceremonies in Oslo
A christening party is usually 20 to 40 around the table, often on the same day as the ceremony. Then the parish halls can be a good place to start: they are next to the church, mostly cost 2,500 to 6,000 kroner for the day, often give the church's own christening families a discount, and have kitchens for the food you bring. A naming ceremony can be celebrated in the same houses; the ones we read hire out regardless of membership.

Four things that apply to christenings and naming ceremonies
The church's own christening families often get a discount
GrĂžnland parish hall is free for those with a christening in GrĂžnland church, when the house is free. Sofienberg charges 3,500 kr for a party after a christening whichever church, against 5,000 kr for other weekend parties. Mortensrud charges 5,000 kr on Sundays for christening parties, against 8,500 kr for a Saturday. It may pay to ask the parish you are christening in first.
A naming ceremony without a church
The parish halls hire out for parties whatever your faith, and Kampen parish hall itself writes that it suits christenings, confirmations, memorial gatherings and children's birthdays. If you would rather have a house without a church in its name, the community houses, residents' halls and KringsjÄ community hall at Hellerud are among the most affordable on the list, from 1,400 kr at VÄlerenga.
Children in the room
Kampen parish hall has four high chairs, Sagene community hall has two, and Park 29 has children's dishes at 225 kr. The rest say nothing about high chairs, changing facilities or room for prams, so it is worth asking. With many little ones in the party, floor space and a side room can matter as much as the hall itself.
A small party does not need a big hall
The community house in Korsgata takes 32 for 2,700 kr and says yes to both your own food and drinks, Damhuset by Isdammen takes 25, and Park 29 has rooms from 6 to 48 with no room hire. With the 'At least 20' filter almost the whole list remains; 'At least 60' removes around a third.
Six kinds of venue
- Parish halls (28)
- Almost every parish hires out its hall for christening parties and confirmations, including to non-members. From 2,500 kr for a day, often a discount for the church's own christening families, and free for its own christening families at GrĂžnland. All have kitchens, none requires you to buy food from them, but only Gamle Aker and Lovisenberg write that bringing your own food is allowed.
- Community houses and clubs (17)
- Houses run by housing cooperatives, associations and sports clubs. Here bringing your own food and drink is the usual thing, with Sagene community hall as the exception: it has a liquor licence and says no to both. The Heming and Ready clubhouses set a minimum age of 30 for the hirer, and members pay less.
- Council houses and farms (13)
- Oslo municipality's booking portal has 77 district venues, but most lend only to voluntary organisations. These are the ones that say yes to christenings and confirmations, plus the farms and villas the council owns that are run by associations, foundations and cafés. The portal requires you to log in, and processing takes five to fourteen days.
- Residents' halls (4)
- Residents' associations hire out to neighbours and others, with a members' price for those who live in the area. Affordable, but often with a minimum age and rules against parties.
- Private venues (22)
- Venues hired on their own, without having to buy food there. From 5,000 kr for a room for 40 to nearly 38,000 kr for a whole wing at Bogstad farm. Three of twenty-two say yes to both your own food and drinks, seven say no to both, and the rest do not say, or say so only for the food.
- Restaurants with a private room (62)
- Restaurants with a private room, often called chambre séparée. You usually pay per person or a minimum spend instead of hire, and none of them writes that you can bring your own food or drinks; Soria Moria, the Mini Bottle Gallery and Thon Hotel Opera accept your own cake, Soria Moria for a fee. In return you are spared most of the clearing up.
These say no to parties
Most are in the council's booking portal and look like community houses, but lend only to voluntary organisations or their own residents. Others require membership, have a minimum age of 20 or were closed when we read. Then it is hardly worth asking.

Ask about this before you book
Is the house free straight after the service
The christening is often in a Sunday service, and some parishes give their own events priority: GrĂžnland writes 'when the house is free'. It may be worth asking when you can come in to lay the tables, and whether there is another christening the same day.
What the price actually covers
Some prices run from noon to midnight, others from Friday evening to Sunday night, and 'per day' rarely means the same thing in two places. Ask when you get the key and when you have to be out, and whether decorating the evening before costs extra. On this list it costs 650 to 2,500 kr where it is stated.
Cleaning, deposit and minimum age
Most houses let you clean yourselves, and charge 1,000 to 3,000 kr if you would rather buy it. Deposits run from 500 to 3,000 kr. And many have a minimum age for whoever signs, usually 23 or 25, whoever is being celebrated.
A kitchen is not a kitchen
Several of the houses have only a serving kitchen: you can heat food and keep it warm, but not cook it. That goes for Stoppestedet, Nordtvet gÄrd, Trosterudvillaen and the IOGT house. Then it is catering or food made at home. Ask too whether crockery and tablecloths are included; at Kampen you get crockery for 90, but bring tablecloths and napkins.
Alcohol has its own rules
Grorud, Ăstre Aker, the IOGT house and the youth house at Nordberg do not allow alcohol. Mortensrud only with a seated dinner. Kampen community house sets a minimum age of 25 for the party if alcohol is served. And where the house has a liquor licence, like Sagene community hall or Villa Lilleborg, you either buy the drinks there or apply for your own licence for a closed party.
What people tell each other
We looked for threads about this on Reddit, but found none in r/oslo or r/norge. What experience exists is on the forums Kvinneguiden, Foreldreportalen and Hifisentralen. This is advice from other parents, not something we have checked, and we say where each piece came from.
- Hotels allow neither your own food nor drink, and 'you can hardly bring your own anywhere with a liquor licence'. If you want to bring everything yourselves, the community houses are the answer, 'though how nice they look is another matter'. (Kvinneguiden, several threads 2015 to 2023)
- In a 2024 thread about confirmation venues, Ăstmarksetra, Nordseter farm, Disen farm, Kanon Bistro and KringsjĂ„ community hall at Hellerud were recommended, and Disen farm was praised for letting you bring your own alcohol. Several wrote that the popular places were booked long in advance, and one suggested asking in the district's Facebook group, where people know which housing cooperatives and residents' associations hire out. Only KringsjĂ„ is read on its own page and on the list; Ăstmarksetra and Disen farm did not answer through the network we have. (Foreldreportalen)
- A thread from February 2026 recommended HĂžr HĂžr at Storgata 36 for bringing food and drink, but their website could not be read when we checked, so it is not on the list. (Hifisentralen)
If nothing here fits
The booking portals list many more venues than we have read, and the two filters that matter most are there too: Eventum marks cards with 'Own food allowed' and 'Own drinks allowed' and can sort cheapest first, Selskapslokaler.no filters by number of guests and shows bring-your-own on each card, and Evarto has the quick filter 'Own food and drinks allowed'. The district's Facebook group may be worth a try too; housing cooperatives and residents' associations that hire out are rarely in any portal.
