Montebello, Ullern

An artist-run cultural centre at Montebello with courses for children and young people. An alternative for children who would rather make something than play sport.

ages 6-18

Trygve Lies plass, Alna

A leisure and development programme at Furuset for children and young people, where Bright Kids for ages 6 to 12 runs weekend activities with creative workshops and hands-on projects including drawing and painting. The point is as much about meeting others across backgrounds as about making something. Being at the weekend means it does not clash with weekday training. Approved for the Oslo leisure card.

Rådhusgata 17, Sentrum

Drawing courses for young people in the premises of Tegnerforbundet, the association for Norwegian illustrators and draughtspeople, in the middle of Kvadraturen. Courses run on Saturdays and cost 200 kroner with materials included - one of the cheapest ways into drawing tuition in the city. Teaching is by professional illustrators, and the courses fill up quickly.

ages 10-13

Manglerud kulturstasjon, Østensjø

Sewing and redesign for children from ten, two hours a week through the school year. The children learn to use a sewing machine and remake used clothes into something of their own, from scrunchies and tote bags to whole garments. The course runs at both Manglerud and Voldsløkka.

ages 10-18

Kulturhuset Veitvet, Bjerke

A voluntary organisation running free courses in sewing, repair and redesign of used textiles for children and young people, at several venues in Oslo. In autumn 2026 «From Trash to Treasure» runs at Kulturhuset Veitvet on Tuesdays for eight to twelve year olds, with jewellery making, sewing and art. 27 artists and designers lead the sessions.

Manglerud, Østensjø

A ceramics course for children aged ten to twelve at Oslo Culture School, at Manglerud kulturstasjon. Children learn to shape and work clay and follow the process from raw clay to finished product, normally over ten sessions per term.

ages 10-12

Myntgata 2, Sentrum

Drawing courses for children in Myntgata, split into groups for ages 6-8, 9-11 and 12-15, on weekday afternoons and Saturdays. Teaching is adapted to each child, and they work both on the pleasure of exploring line and colour and on technique: perspective, overlapping and colour theory. Courses run in blocks through the term, and several fill up, so it pays to be early.

Marienlyst skole, St. Hanshaugen

Drawing courses at Marienlyst at two levels, one for eight to ten and one for ten to twelve. One hour a week over 35 weeks. The younger group learns perspective, anatomy and light and shade; the older moves on to portraits, life sketching and still life. Charcoal, ink, pastel and watercolour in both.

Manglerud kulturstasjon, Østensjø

Advanced ceramics for young people from twelve, ninety minutes to two hours a week. Pupils follow the whole process from idea to finished object: coiling, slab work, casting and relief, then decorating, glazing and firing. The course runs at Manglerud, Voldsløkka and Schous.

ages 12-18

Voldsløkka kulturstasjon, Sagene

Woodwork for children between ten and twelve, ninety minutes a week through the school year, and the course is free. The children learn about different woods, saw and build their own objects, and try old techniques such as nailing and kolrosing. Registration is required.

ages 10-12

Schous kulturstasjon, Grünerløkka

Animation for children from ten, ninety minutes a week over 28 weeks. Pupils work with both digital drawn animation and analogue cut-out animation, where figures are cut out and moved frame by frame.

A private school of arts that has taught children music, dance, theatre and visual art since 1981, with 16 teaching locations around Oslo and Bærum. The drawing and painting courses for children let young artists explore different techniques in safe, small groups - and the school also offers singing and instrument tuition for those who would rather play than paint. Arups gate 5, Gamle Oslo

A process-oriented art school focused on drawing and painting, in Arups gate in Gamlebyen (the school kept its name after nearly twenty years in Nydalen), with dedicated courses for children and youth. In summer there is a dedicated drawing course for teenagers aged 13-17 (after the main holiday period, before school starts), and young people can also join the school's other drawing and painting courses. For teenagers who want to take their drawing seriously in a real studio environment.
