Organised activities for children in Oslo

Ellingsrud, Alna

Children's football at Ellingsrud sports park, which the club runs itself along with courts for beach handball and tennis. Ellingsrud IL was founded on 14 November 1974 and has handball, football, tennis, floorball and all-round sport under one roof. The facility sits in the middle of the neighbourhood. Equal playing time and no tables up to age twelve.

ages 6-12

Oluf Onsums vei 9B, Nordstrand

A dance studio at Ryen with a clear progression through childhood. Children's dance is for four- and five-year-olds, preparatory ballet and jazz for six- and seven-year-olds, and from age eight you start ballet and jazz level 1 and work up through the levels. Hip-hop and break start at six and follow the same ladder, with modern, commercial and musical theatre further up.

ages 4-16

Manglerud skole, Østensjø

The school choir at Manglerud, a member of Ung i Kor Oslo. The fee is 800 kroner a term, with a sibling discount. The choir rehearses at the school and performs at school events through the year.

ages 7-13

Petersborg, Ensjø, Gamle Oslo

A local coding club at Ensjø for all school-age children in the neighbourhood, run by volunteers from Lær Kidsa Koding. The club takes children from years 1 to 7, while many coding clubs start in year 4. The children make games and animations and program small computers. No prior experience needed.

ages 6-13

Bryn, Gamle Oslo

A climbing and bouldering centre at Bryn with dedicated activities for children. The recommended age is from around 8-10. There is no absolute lower limit, but the walls and routes are set for children from roughly fifth grade and up. Bouldering needs neither rope nor a belay partner.

Furuset bad, Alna

Swimming courses for children aged four to eight at Furuset bad, run by Sportsklubben Speed. Håbrann Svømmeklubb also runs courses in the same pool, so there are two clubs to choose between here.

ages 4-8

Ris menighetshus, Vestre Aker

Free choir for school years 3 to 7 at the Ris parish house, Thursdays from 18:00 to 19:30. Alongside singing the choir does dance, drama and play. The choir is part of the YWCA-YMCA.

ages 8-12

Bjølsenhallen, Sagene

A table tennis club founded in 1975. Note that the club is called Kjelsås but plays at Bjølsenhallen in the Sagene district, which is where to turn up. The training fee is structured around how much a child actually trains, with one rate for one or two sessions a week, a higher one for three to five days, and a lower one for those who only train on Fridays and Saturdays. League and tournament play is included in the fee. Approved for the Oslo leisure card, as the club has announced itself.

Høybråten kirke, Høybråtenveien 37, Stovner

KFUK-KFUM scouts meeting at Høybråten church. Oppdagere and stifinnere in years 2 to 4 meet on Wednesdays from 18:00 to 19:15 at Normisjonens hus in Bergtunveien, and the vandrere in years 5 to 10 on Wednesdays from 18:30 to 20:00 in the basement of Høybråten church. The scarf changes colour at each step.

Flere skoler i Oslo, Sentrum

A chess club exclusively for children and youth, with structured evening courses led by instructors and two to three course rounds per term. The club runs monthly tournaments for children, its own chess camps in the school holidays, and game evenings that are free for members. Activities run at several schools around Oslo, so it is often a short trip.

Ullernbanen, Ullern

Children's football from age six at the large multi-sport club Ullern IF, at Ullernbanen. Up to age twelve there is equal playing time and no league tables. The club also has handball, cheerleading and other sports.

ages 6-12

Ljan, Nordstrand

A private culture school offering dance, music, theatre and visual art for children and youth. MAYA teaches at a number of locations across Oslo and Bærum; the address here is the head office at Ljan.

ages 3-18

Høyenhallen, Østensjø

Community gymnastics at Høyenhallen by Manglerud metro station, with playful gymnastics for four- and five-year-olds and then groups by school year all the way to tenth grade. The exercises follow the national gymnastics ladder of a hundred graded skills, and those who want more can move up to a dedicated advanced group.

Grorudveien 7, Grorud

The district's large sports club, founded in 1918, with sections for football, handball and tennis. Football is the biggest, with teams in all children's and youth classes and a home ground at Grorud sports facility.

ages 5-18

Thon Senter Mortensrud, Søndre Nordstrand

A local dance school at Mortensrud with jazz dance from age 6 upwards. The studio is on the fourth floor of the Thon shopping centre at Mortensrud, rather than in a school hall. Every spring and Christmas there is a large performance at Mortensrud. Approved for the Oslo leisure card.

Bentsebrua flerbrukshall og Bjølsenhallen, Sagene

The handball section has children's and youth teams for the birth years 2019 through 2011, and several of them train twice a week. Each year the club runs a free handball school for new year groups. Training is in Bentsebrua flerbrukshall and Bjølsenhallen at Bjølsen, and the first sessions are free.

ages 7-15

Vinderen skole, Vestre Aker

Vinderen children's choir was set up as a school choir in 1977 by the couple Else-Marit and Joar Rørmark, who led it until the late 1990s. In 2008 the choir was restarted with a new profile and the name Vinderenkoret. A member of Ung i Kor Oslo.

Grønmo, Søndre Nordstrand

A golf club at Grønmo with a stated grassroots offering for children and young people aged five to nineteen. The club has around 400 junior members, about 65 of them training actively, plus separate gatherings for girls aged thirteen to seventeen.

ages 5-18

Stenbråten skole, Søndre Nordstrand

A school band at Mortensrud with around thirty players. The band is for children in primary and lower secondary school, but rarely takes beginners younger than second graders, and older children who want to start playing are just as welcome. Rehearsals are at Stenbråten school every Wednesday from 6pm to 8pm, with the beginners playing the first hour.

ages 7-16

Norges idrettshøgskole, Nordre Aker

Swimming all the way from baby classes to club level. Baby courses take children from ten weeks, toddler courses run from two to four with an adult in the water, and the swimming school then follows the national levels of diving, floating, gliding and propulsion. Courses are held at the Norwegian School of Sport Sciences, Lovisenberg and Bergtunet, and the club also offers synchronised swimming.

Trosterud skole, Alna

Drum group for teenagers in Groruddalen, rehearsing every Friday from 13:30 to 15:30 in the assembly hall at Trosterud school. Drumline is ensemble marching percussion, newly started and open to youth aged 12 to 16. The fee is 50 kroner.

ages 12-16

Speiderhuset Hiet, Grefsenveien 78 b, Nordre Aker

KFUK-KFUM scouts based in the Hiet scout house at Grefsen. Age groups follow the school years, and each has its own scarf colour: yellow for the oppdagere in years 1 and 2, red for the stifinnere in years 3 and 4, blue or dark green for the vandrere from year 5 upwards.

Voksen flerbrukshall, Vestre Aker

Floorball at Voksen flerbrukshall in two groups. The mixed group for ages 10 to 12 is for both girls and boys and trains on Tuesdays from 16:30 to 17:30. It is the beginners' group: no training fee for the time being, only club membership, and the first session is a free trial.

Njårdhallen, Vestre Aker

Gymnastics group adapted for children and youth with intellectual disabilities, at Njårdhallen on Makrellbekken. Njård offers para gymnastics both within the children's programme (ages 3 to 13) and for youth from 14, with training adapted to each gymnast.

ages 3-18

Lambertseter, Nordstrand

A wrestling club with groups for children from as young as four and up, in a wrestling hall in operation since January 2018. The youngest train basic motor skills and falling technique through play, while the older ones wrestle properly.

ages 4-18

Niels Juels gate 33B, Frogner

A para-sports club with nine sports adapted for children and young people with disabilities: basic training, football, handball, floorball, volleyball, martial arts, bowling, climbing and wheelchair handball. The club has offered sport for people with disabilities since 2003. Historically aimed at developmental disabilities, it added wheelchair handball for people with mobility impairments in 2023, and a dedicated training group for children on the autism spectrum in 2024.

Østre Aker vei 90, Bjerke

Free makerspace and workshops in music and technology for girls, trans and non-binary youth aged 12 to 24, every Wednesday near Økern. The drop-in workshop is open from 15:00 to 20:00 with instruments, electronics and equipment to borrow for your own projects, and between 17:00 and 19:00 a workshop runs in one room while you can work on your own in the other. Apalløkka Idrettshall, Tjernveien 12, Grorud

A basketball club in the Groruddalen valley with its home court in Apalløkka sports hall. The club has teams for children and youth in all age groups, runs its own basketball camps and has a new outdoor court at Grorud, so you can play indoors in winter and outside in summer.

ages 6-18

Holmlia, Søndre Nordstrand

Holmlia's own string orchestra for children and young people aged six to eighteen, with professional teachers. Members play violin, viola and cello together rather than alone, and the orchestra welcomes both beginners and those who have played for a while.

Nordpolen skole, Sagene

A school band at Nordpolen school giving children and young people both theoretical and practical music tuition, with training on band instruments and in ensemble playing. The school also has its own children's choir, so a family can choose between singing and an instrument in the same place. Approved for the Oslo leisure card.
