Autumn break in Oslo with kids

Tips by age
Toddlers, 1 to 3 years
When it rains, an indoor play centre has soft surfaces to climb and play on. On a dry day, you can kick through the leaves in the park or visit one of the city's farms with hens and sheep.
Kindergarten age, 3 to 6 years
The Natural History Museum has the dinosaur skeletons, the Technology Museum has buttons to press, and Bånkall farm and Kampen children's farm have animals. If the weather holds, a climbing park or a forest walk still works in early October. A baking workshop or a paint-your-own-pottery studio makes for a calm indoor day.
School age, 6 to 12 years
For children who want to use their bodies: a trampoline park, climbing and bouldering, a swimming pool and water park, bowling or mini golf. When it rains, there is kids' cinema. A treasure hunt or nature trail in the forest suits the weeks while the leaves still have their colour.
Teenagers, 13 and up
Climbing and bouldering, karting, bowling and gaming are things they can do with friends, and a water park or swimming pool works whatever the weather. Biblo Tøyen is a free library only for 10 to 15-year-olds, and adults are not allowed in. If they want to get outside, a bike ride or a walk along the fjord or in the forest is a good option while the leaves are still on the ground.

Oslo's new main library by the Opera has a whole children's floor on the second level, with books, cushions, play nooks, workshops and a regular children's programme. Most things are free (paper and materials are charged at cost), and you can stay as long as you like, even a whole rainy day.
Vulkan Klatresenter

Indoor climbing and bouldering centre by Mathallen at Vulkan, run by Kolsås Klatreklubb, with three climbing walls and 26 top-rope stations. Centrally located, and a nice place to try climbing with slightly older children.
Naturhistorisk museum
Sars' gate 1, 0562 Oslo
Dinosaur skeletons and animals from all over the world, with the Botanical Garden right outside to run around in afterwards.
Barnas Cinematek
Dronningens gate 16, 0152 Oslo
The Cinematheque in the city centre screens classic and new children's films on some weekends, with one screening for the youngest and a family film for slightly older children. The films are chosen for children, and the dates are in the programme.
Sjøholmen kulturhus
Sandviksveien 130, 1365 Blommenholm
Art and culture house in a historic 1890 villa by the sea in Sandvika. The main draw for children is Sanseloftet, a 400 sqm sensory experience across nine rooms of colour, scent and light, for children aged 3-12 (adults only enter with a child). Note: located in Bærum, not Oslo municipality.
Miniland Lambertseter
Cecilie Thoresens vei 17, 1153 Oslo
A pedagogical indoor play centre for children aged 0 to 5 at Lambertseter shopping centre, straight above Anton Sport at Cecilie Thoresens vei 17-21. 500 square metres divided into zones inspired by the continents, with climbing, a slide, a ball pit and role play, plus animals and environments from around the world. Adults can easily keep an eye on the whole space. Booking is recommended, and there are memberships and birthday parties. Open weekdays 9am-7pm and weekends 8am-8pm. Opening hours checked 24.10.2026.
Klatreverket Løren

Climbing centre in Kanonhallen at Løren, with eight metres from floor to ceiling, autobelay, bouldering walls and the training boards Tension Board 2, Kilter Board and MoonBoard 2024. After-school climbing groups for ages 6 to 8, 9 to 12 and 13 to 16.
Sørli Besøksgård
Nøklevann, Østmarka, Oslo
Old smallholding in the forest by Nøklevann in Østmarka, about 1.3 km from Bøler metro station. Children can say hello to the farm animals, and the walk in pairs nicely with a swim or a picnic by the lake.
Oslo Museum

The city museum in the old Frogner manor in the middle of Frognerparken tells Oslo's story across 1,000 years. Children and young people up to and including age 25 get in free, adults pay, and the first Thursday of every month is free for everyone. Inside there are models, old objects and changing exhibitions, and outside are the park and the playground.
Knøttekino og babykino på Vega Scene
Hausmanns gate 28, 0182 Oslo
Knøttekino is tailored for children aged 2-5 with lowered sound and lighting, shorter films, and screening rooms furnished with sofas, blankets and cushions. Babykino is set up for breastfeeding, bottle-feeding and nappy changes, with low volume and dimmed lights, and room for crying, cuddling and babbling.
Biblo Tøyen
Kolstadgata 1, 0652 Oslo
A library only for children aged 10 to 15, and adults are not allowed in. Biblo Tøyen has workshops, games, an old truck and a tram to hang out in, and lots of books, and the young people themselves are in charge. Free.
Middelalderparken
Bispegata, 0192 Oslo
A park in Gamle Oslo built over the ruins of the medieval city, with remains of old churches and a royal manor and a large reflecting pool. Children can clamber on the ruins, splash by the water in summer and hear about Oslo as the city looked 800 years ago. Free and open around the clock, with plenty of room to play.
Holmlia bad
Holmlia senter vei 34, 1255 Oslo
Municipal swimming pool at Holmlia with a 25-metre pool from 0.9 to 1.8 metres deep and a small splash pool of 2.15 x 2.15 metres and 30 centimetres deep. Both are kept at 28 degrees. Sauna, and changing rooms with lockers.

Dukketeater på Trikkestallen
Torshovgata 33, 0476 Oslo
Puppet theatre in the old tram depot (Trikkestallen) at Torshov, run by Oslo Nye Teater/Égal Teater. The shows are short and played in a small room, so they work as a first theatre visit for small children. NB: Oslo Nye has decided to close the Trikkestallen stage. The puppet theatre is moving to Centralteatret and the main stage, so check the venue on oslonye.no before you go.
Operataket

The Opera House in Bjørvika is built so you can walk straight up onto the roof: the sloping marble surfaces rise from the ground to the top, and it's free. From the top there is a wide view over the fjord, the city and the boats. Bring good shoes; the marble can be slippery when wet.
Innbyggerbasen i bydel Stovner

A meeting place for parents and families with children aged 0-18 in the Stovner district, based in the white wooden house and the red barn at Nedre Fossum farm, Karl Fossums vei 1.
Manglerud sykkelpark

A cycling park by Manglerud swimming pool where children practise cycling skills on tracks of varying difficulty. Suitable from balance-bike age and up, and free. In winter a ski track is prepared on the wide main loop. Manglerud swimming pool is right next door and open all year.
JumpYard SNØ

A trampoline park at Luhrtoppen in Lørenskog, with trampolines, a ninja course, a climbing wall, a high ropes course and a BattleBeam. The park sets four age tiers, and children under three cannot jump.
Skyland Megafun Lørenskog

Large indoor entertainment centre (formerly Megafun, now part of the Skyland chain) with trampolines, a multi-storey play area, a laser play zone, 6D cinema and a wind tunnel. Note: located in Lørenskog, not Oslo municipality.
Lille Lab, Tøyen

The Lille Lab branch for the youngest, aged 0-2, with calm play areas and sensory play, and a place to meet other parents on leave. Older siblings cannot come along.
Familiesenter Stovner (Røde Kors)

A free, open meeting place for families run by the Red Cross, at Nedre Fossum farm, Karl Fossums vei 1. Open to all families on Mondays and Wednesdays 4:30-7:30pm and Sundays noon-3pm, no registration needed. The times were checked on 27 October 2026.
Tøyenbadet

New pool facility in Tøyen with its own children's pool (32 degrees), a warm jacuzzi (36 degrees) and a heated outdoor pool (32 degrees) that is open all year, plus a large outdoor area in summer. The children's area has fountains and is designed for calm play in the water.

Litteraturhuset, barnerommet Sjeherasad

Free children's room (Sjeherasad) on the first floor, open to everyone on Mondays from 10am to 2pm outside the school holidays. You can browse the books, climb the climbing frame and jump in the cushion amphitheatre. NB: the room is closed for renovation, hopefully reopening during the autumn.

MUNCH has a broad children's programme: 'Sanselek' sensory play, in separate versions for babies aged 6-12 months and toddlers aged 1-2, 'Barnas kunstdag' for 3-8-year-olds on almost every Sunday, and workshops during school holidays for slightly older children.

Children's singing with dinner after kindergarten hours, run by Paulus and Sofienberg parish. The parish lists the autumn term as «Hverdagsmiddag med sang» in Paulus kirke every other Tuesday from 25 August to 1 December, with singing, play and a simple meal.

The museum about the Nobel Peace Prize by the City Hall square, with exhibitions and stories of peace laureates from around the world. Children aged 0 to 17 get in free, and the audio guide is free and plays on your own phone.
Annes Dukketeater

Puppet theatre in a small red house in Frognerparken, next to the Frogner tennis courts. The shows are made for different age groups, from «Molefonkens ballong» (ages 2-4) via «Molefonken» (ages 1-6) to the puppet cabaret «Den magiske kiste» (ages 3-8). Several shows are followed by a workshop where children make their own theatre puppet.
Ammerud pumptrack
Ammerudgrenda, 0959 Oslo
A pumptrack at Ammerud, completed in 2020. The cycling club LilloVelo initiated it and has an agreement with the municipality on upkeep and use, while the Grorud district ran the project. The off-road cycling track is made so children and young people can try it without equipment or sign-up, and the lighting means it can be used year round. Free and open to all.
