Week 40 and week 8, year after year
Oslo puts the autumn break in week 40 and the winter break in week 8, and that repeats in both years in the table. Useful when booking far ahead: holiday programmes and employers work in week numbers, not dates.
Note that neighbouring municipalities do not always use the same week. If you have children in two municipalities, or grandparents helping out from another one, it is worth checking both calendars before you plan.
The days off that catch people out
Friday 7 May 2027 is the one to note. It is not a public holiday, but the schools are closed because it is wedged between Ascension Day and the weekend. It is an ordinary working day for most parents, and it catches people out every year.
Planning days are not listed separately in the city's calendar - they sit inside the holidays. Individual schools may still place some outside them, so check your school's own calendar as well.
