AKS in Oslo: the price, and the free part-time place
AKS is Oslo's after-school programme, what other municipalities call SFO. The main thing to know is that the part-time place is free for everyone in years 1 to 3 - not means-tested, not only at some schools, and not something you have to document your income for.
A part-time place in years 1 to 3 is free for everyone, whatever your income.

From year 4 the picture changes for the highest incomes: both full-time and part-time cost something.

Eleven months, not twelve
July is not billed, because AKS is closed. So you pay for eleven months a year, which is worth factoring in when comparing with kindergarten fees. Payment is in advance.
Food is included in the fee, and amounts to 51 kroner. There is no separate food bill on top.
No family pays more than 6 per cent of income
There is a national scheme for reduced payment, with an upper income limit of NOK 653,583. If your household is below it, and the fee would exceed 6 per cent of your income, you are entitled to a reduction. You apply through the parent portal.
Note that this applies to a full-time place. If your child is in years 1 to 3 and part-time is enough, the place is free regardless, and there is nothing to apply for.
